We were the first website selling Mexican real estate. Thirty years later we are still here, in the same city, telling buyers the truth about what things cost.

Not a brochure. Buyers who came down, bought a house and stayed, talking about what the decision was actually like.
Why We Moved to Mérida, Mexico — Real Expat Stories
The first question
Yes — and it is routine. It just isn’t familiar.
Mérida sits inside Mexico’s restricted zone, which runs 50 km inland from any coast. Foreign buyers there hold their property through a fideicomiso: a bank trust where you are the named beneficiary. It is not a lease. You can live in it, rent it, remodel it, sell it, and leave it to your heirs. The term is 50 years and it renews.
Most of what you will read online gets this wrong for Mérida specifically. We have been closing these transactions here since 1994.

Since 1994
The company began in 1994 as Miguels Mexico — by our reckoning the first website dedicated to selling Mexican real estate. There were no digital cameras. We shot film, waited for it to develop, and scanned every photograph by hand.
In 2004 we became Mexico International. In between came Hurricane Isidore, the looted Quinta Teresa, and a ruined hacienda called Chenché de las Torres that we marketed when it had no roof.
We tell the truth about what it really costs. From their own About page — where it appears twice

I had a wonderful experience with Mexico International and agent Colm Cooney. We saw properties that fit our style and price range and learned alot about Merida during our time with him. The fact that we purchased our home three days following our tour speaks for itself!
My experience with Robert Slaats was excellent. Maybe I was lucky that I discovered I had a desirable house in a desirable neighbourhood — that sold quickly, but he created a less stressful experience, was charming, transparent. All in all, I would recommend Robert to potential future clients.
Navigating the complexities of buying property abroad for the first time was intimidating, but Shawn held my hand every step of the way. He not only explained the entire process but also took on tasks that I never expected, including signing on my behalf so I didn’t have to make another trip down.
The team
Our team has more years of professional real estate experience than any other company in Yucatán. Several of our agents are legally trained, certified and licensed Realtors in the USA and Canada.
